Masculine Card | Thinking Of you

Hello my friends and welcome! Before I begin I wanted to take a moment to say that I hope you are all doing well and finding time to do some of the things you haven’t been able to do during this crazy time in our world. I hope that you are safe and pray we all get through this together. Now lets make a card!

Todays card was a request from my husband. He recently found out a friend of his at work got some terrible health news, unrelated to the COVID-19 virus. “He said to me could you make him a card, I said sure.” “He said, could you make it manly…I laughed.”

This card is so universal that you could turn it into a Birthday card, Congratulations card or any other type of masculine encouragement card. I created a video below, if you want to check it out.

Easy Masculine Card Tutorial

Here are the steps I took to create this card.

  • First I trimmed my metallic kraft stock to 4 x 5 1/4 inches
  • Next I spritzed each side with one spray of water.
  • I then placed the panel into the Tim Holtz 3D Machines Embossing folder and ran it through my Big Shot die cutting machine one time.
  • Once the panel was embossed I trimmed a 1/2 inch x 4 inch piece of Fabriano Black Black paper and heat embossed my sentiment “I’m here for you” from the Messages for Everyday stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. I used Sterling Embossing powder from Brutus Monroe.
  • Once the heat embossing was complete, I took my poker tool to mark where I wanted my holes punched and eyelets added.I used the 1/8th inch hole punch on the We R Memory Keepers Big Bite hole punch/eyelet setter to finish off the banner.
  • The final part of the front panel was to die cut the word DUDE. For those letters I used the Momenta alphabet die set that I picked up from Hobby Lobby and cut out 4 layers of black heavyweight card stock and a single layer of Tim Holtz silver metallic kraft stock. For a total of 5 layers.
  • After gluing each layer I took my t-ruler and adhered them to my card front with some Art Glitter glue.

For the inside of my card I would normally stamp something from what ever stamp set I used on the outside, but because I used an embossing folder and letter dies there just wasn’t anything to use. Because this was a masculine card and I had used them on the outside, I decided to add eyelets to the corner of my inside layering panels. To give them some interest.

  • To start the inside I trimmed an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of Gina K Designs White Layering cardstock down to 4 x11. Then I trimmed the 11 inch side to 5 1/4 and created two panels measuring 4 x 5 1/4.
  • Then I took a light silver pen, you could also use a pencil, and placed a small dot on each corner where I wanted the eyelets to go. Now normally I wouldn’t use 2 panels for the inside of my cards, but my husband likes to write on the left side of cards and I like to have a sentiment so I added the additional panel. You do not need to add the additional panel on the left.
  • Next I took my big bite and punched 1/8th inch holes on all 4 corners of each panel. I added eyelets to the left panel and before completing the last 4 eyelets on the right panel, I stamped my sentiment using my Couture Creations Stamp Press using Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. The sentiment I used “sending you good vibes and positive thoughts” is from the Mama Elephant Just a note stamp set.

To finish up the card…

  • I trimmed a piece of fun foam and place some double-sided adhesive to each side of the fun foam.
  • I then adhered the fun foam to the back of my embossed panel and adhered the panel to my card base.
  • The card base I used is Gina K Designs Stormy Sky card stock 8 1/2 x 11 inch cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inchs side folding A2 size.
  • I adhered the two white layering panels to the inside of the card base using 1/2 inch double sided adhesive.

And that completes my card for today. Below you will find a list of products used to create this card. I want to thank you so much for joining me today and I will catch up with you soon.

Inky Hugs,

Katy

To get started the products I am using today are

  • Simon Says Stamp Peony Bouquet Stencil
  • Gina K Designs In the Navy
  • Stazon Pigment Ink in Snowflake, Lemon Drop, Pink Cosmos and Shamrock Green
  • My Card Base is Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb Cover
  • I am using simple makup sponges, but you could use make up brushes as well.
  • Gina K Designs Embossing and Watermark ink
  • Brutus Monroe Gilded Embossing Powder
  • Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Words stamp set

Completing My Card Panel

To start I applied a repositionable adhesive to the back of my stencil and let that dry for a few seconds and then I applied the stencil to my cardstock. Once adhered I started sponging on the white snowflake pigment ink to all of the stencil that was showing on my card panel. Once the layer of white was added, I then added Stazon Lemon Drop ink to the stamens. I then moved on to adding the Stazon Pink Cosmos ink to all of the flowers. And Finally I added the Stazon Shamrock Green ink to the leaves.

For my greeting I embossed one of the Thanks from the Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Words stamp set using Brutus Monroe Gilded Embossing Powder and Gina K Designs Embossing and Watermark ink. Next,

  • I cut an 8.5 x 11 110 lb Neenah Classic Crest Card down on the 11 inch side to 5.5 inches and then scored with my scor-buddy at 4.25 inches.
  • I then adhered a piece of fun foam with 1/2 inch scor-tape to the back of my card panel to give it some dimension.
  • Before adding my card panel to my card base. I took the stencil and added one of the Peony’s to the inside of the card base. I then added my sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Words stamp set. Using Delicata Golden Glitz pigment ink.

Finishing Up

To finish I adhered my card panel to my card base and then completed a quick matching envelope using a Gina K Designs In the Navy envelope and the Peony Bouquet Stencil, again adding a layer of white snowflake pigment ink from Stazon and then adding the Lemon Drop ink followed by the Pink Cosmos and finally the shamrock green.

This completes my project for today I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and you click the link #TeamTinySpringFlowers and follow along on Youtube. Please Check out all the other talented crafters who are hopping along.

Fall color combo Card

Hey there crafty friends! Today we are going to make this beautiful fall inspired card using a stencil, distress ink and some Tonic Nuvo glimmer paste. All items used will be linked up below. With some products using affiliate links at no additional cost to you. Check out the video below to see the process in action. Lets get started.

Click here to watch the video on my Youtube Channel

I began by using a 5 1/2 x 7 inch piece of bristol card which I will trim down to slightly smaller than an A2 size using my A2 layering dies from Waffle Flower. I then sprayed my stencil with some repositionable adhesive spray; mine was Scotch brand, but Pixie spray is very popular as well. The stencil I used is from Simon Says Stamp called Solar Burst, perfect for Fall and Indian Summer backgrounds. I then adhered it to my bristol smooth cardstock.

Then I placed my stencil and paper on to a mini Tonic easy clean mat, which works wonderfully for blending because it does not slide around on your work surface.

For my blending I used a medium sized makeup brush. They are just like the life changing brushes from Picket Fence Studio just with a cheaper price point. You could also use your mini blending tools…use what you have. No need to go and buy more. Unless of course you want to 🙂

The distress colors I used for my card today are fall inspired. I chose mustard seed, spiced marmalade, fired brick and some vintage photo for around my card panel and inside layering piece. These colors work so beautifully together.

I started by adding mustard seed to the center of my stencil then blending spiced marmalade around the outer edge and blending to the yellow. The fired brick was added around the spiced marmalade and faded out to the outer part of the card panel to soften the white. I did each color blending twice to get some deep color, once we add the glimmer paste these colors deepen even more and really pop!

Once my blending was complete I moved on to adding the Nuvo glimmer paste in moonstone from Tonic Studios. I just love, love, love this “color” because it dries clear and has iridescent glitter, it takes on what ever colors you use and just adds so much extra to your project. I used my palette knife to smooth on a thin layer of glimmer paste. Once I finished with my paste I peeled up my stencil and placed in a bowl of warm water to soak while I completed my other steps.

Next I used my Big Shot to die cut my Thinking of you die, also from Simon Says Stamp. I cut that out 3 times using Gina K Designs Dark Chocolate cardstock. Once all three pieces were cut out I adhered them together using my Art Glitter Glue. If you are not familiar with this glue, it is great! A little goes a long way and it will last a long time and dries quick. This glue does dry clear, but lets be honest…liquid glue is messy and once it gets on the fingers it gets everywhere…so use sparingly. Also, order when the weather is warm. Because it is water based it will harden in colder temps. Just keep that in mind when ordering. Any who, once I had my die cuts adhered I added some vintage photo to the top half of each word to deepen the color a bit which helps the words stand out against the background.

I then checked my stencil panel and made sure it was completely dry. Because I am running this through my die cutting machine I do not want my glimmer paste coming off on my cutting plate…ask me how I know…lol

Using my A2 layering set from Waffle Flower, I chose the second die in from the largest and cut my panel. I then used my vintage photo to blend around the outer 4 sides of my panel which really ties in the brown cardstock that I used for the thinking of you and cardbase. I then added some double sided adhesive to a 4 x 5 1/4 foam panel and adhered that to my dark chocolate cardbase. I then adhered my words to the outside of the panel.

For the inside I normally add a sentiment, but my husband is sending this to an old friends Mom who was diagnosed with cancer recently and I was not sure if he would want the whole space to write or what…so I left it blank. I did use a piece of Gina K white layering card with some vintage photo around the edge to warm it up so it wasn’t so stark. The inside panel measured 4 x 5 1/4. Once I adhered my inside panel I finished up the outside panel with three golden glitter enamel dots that I had in my stash.

And that my friends completes our card project for today. I hope you give this card a try or this inspires you to see what stencils, dies and ink you have laying around and show me what you are creating. Hit me up at my instagram @eastwickspaperandink.

Thanks so much for stopping by and head back soon for my next video/post to see the Big Shot and Spellbinders Glimmer system in action.

See you soon,

Katy
