Hey there crafty friends! Today we are going to make this beautiful fall inspired card using a stencil, distress ink and some Tonic Nuvo glimmer paste. All items used will be linked up below. I began by using a 5 1/2 x 7 inch piece of bristol card which I will trim down to slightly smaller than an A2 size using my A2 layering dies from Waffle Flower. I then sprayed my stencil with some repositionable adhesive spray; mine was Scotch brand, but Pixie spray is very popular as well. The stencil I used is from Simon Says Stamp called Solar Burst, perfect for Fall and Indian Summer backgrounds. I then adhered it to my bristol smooth cardstock.
Then I placed my stencil and paper on to a mini Tonic easy clean mat, which works wonderfully for blending because it does not slide around on your work surface.
For my blending I used a medium sized makeup brush. They are just like the life changing brushes from Picket Fence Studio just with a cheaper price point. You could also use your mini blending tools…use what you have. No need to go and buy more. Unless of course you want to 🙂
The distress colors I used for my card today are fall inspired. I chose mustard seed, spiced marmalade, fired brick and some vintage photo for around my card panel and inside layering piece. These colors work so beautifully together.
I started by adding mustard seed to the center of my stencil then blending spiced marmalade around the outer edge and blending to the yellow. The fired brick was added around the spiced marmalade and faded out to the outer part of the card panel to soften the white. I did each color blending twice to get some deep color, once we add the glimmer paste these colors deepen even more and really pop!
Once my blending was complete I moved on to adding the Nuvo glimmer paste in moonstone from Tonic Studios. I just love, love, love this “color” because it dries clear and has iridescent glitter, it takes on what ever colors you use and just adds so much extra to your project. I used my palette knife to smooth on a thin layer of glimmer paste. Once I finished with my paste I peeled up my stencil and placed in a bowl of warm water to soak while I completed my other steps.
Next I used my Big Shot to die cut my Thinking of you die, also from Simon Says Stamp. I cut that out 3 times using Gina K Designs Dark Chocolate cardstock. Once all three pieces were cut out I adhered them together using my Art Glitter Glue. If you are not familiar with this glue, it is great! A little goes a long way and it will last a long time and dries quick. This glue does dry clear, but lets be honest…liquid glue is messy and once it gets on the fingers it gets everywhere…so use sparingly. Also, order when the weather is warm. Because it is water based it will harden in colder temps. Just keep that in mind when ordering. Any who, once I had my die cuts adhered I added some vintage photo to the top half of each word to deepen the color a bit which helps the words stand out against the background.
I then checked my stencil panel and made sure it was completely dry. Because I am running this through my die cutting machine I do not want my glimmer paste coming off on my cutting plate…ask me how I know…lol
Using my A2 layering set from Waffle Flower, I chose the second die in from the largest and cut my panel. I then used my vintage photo to blend around the outer 4 sides of my panel which really ties in the brown cardstock that I used for the thinking of you and cardbase. I then added some double sided adhesive to a 4 x 5 1/4 foam panel and adhered that to my dark chocolate cardbase. I then adhered my words to the outside of the panel.
For the inside I normally add a sentiment, but my husband is sending this to an old friends Mom who was diagnosed with cancer recently and I was not sure if he would want the whole space to write or what…so I left it blank. I did use a piece of Gina K white layering card with some vintage photo around the edge to warm it up so it wasn’t so stark. The inside panel measured 4 x 5 1/4. Once I adhered my inside panel I finished up the outside panel with three golden glitter enamel dots that I had in my stash.
