Spellbinders August Stitched Die of the Month

Tuesday, August 12, 2025

Share

Hello friends! I am excited to share this month's stitched die of the month. It is a cute sailboat that would be similar to an origami fold. Of course no folding is done, but it looks that way and the sentiments coordinate with such a design.

Lets start with the background

  • I used some of my pigment powders which are Procion Dye inks used to tie dying fabric to create it.
  • I wanted to try something similar to the technique we use for alcohol inks, so I used a piece of watercolor paper and applied a lot of water to the bottom of the paper.
  • While the water was pooled up on the paper I sprinkled some turquoise pigment powder and used my alcohol ink blower tool to move the water and pigment around.
  • I continued this with a bit more water and a couple darker blues and blew the water and pigment up towards the top of the paper. Once I liked how it looked I set it aside to dry.

Once dried, I cut the panel with an arch die. Second from the largest.

Next the boat.

  • I die cut white cardstock for all the main pieces and used white metallic dmc thread for all my stitching.
  • For the flag banner, I tried a couple different colors, but landed on the white.
  • For the sail and the flag I used Simon Says Stamp Sea Glass.
  • For the heart in the center of the sail and the sentiment I used Gina K Designs Soft Stone. These 2 colors complement each other very well.
  • For the sentiment I did pop it up with a foam strip.
  • I used some double sided adhesive on the back of the waves and the arch panel to adhere down to the card base. And I used liquid glue on the back of the boat, the flag, the sail and on the two ends of the banner.

The above photos show whats included in the kit, however the thread is not. Products used are listed below.

Well that's a wrap my friends! I hope you enjoyed this month's stitched die of the month and it inspires you with future projects. Thanks so much joining me today. I hope you have a fantastic day and I will catch you next time.
